Responding to Nonadherence

This Instructional Session will be held on Friday September 7 during the 10th National Lymphedema Network International Conference.

Registration opens October 2011. Go to www.lymphnet.org

Nonadherence is a common obstacle to optimal response to healthcare - especially for chronic conditions such as lymphedema, where effective home care can be demanding, expensive, and involve lifestyle changes.

Seeing patients' health deteriorate unnecessarily as a result of nonadherence is frustrating and heart-breaking. How can healthcare providers respond so as to best help their patients and protect themselves from guilt, anger, and burnout?

Learn the reasons behind nonadherence, how patients move from nonadherence to adherence, and what to do help patients make the transition.
