About

[ Elizabeth McMahon ]

I am Elizabeth J. McMahon, PhD, a clinical psychologist with more than 30 years experience helping people improve their lives.

Lymphedema: I became interested in lymphedema while looking for resources for a family member with the condition. That led me to writing and collaborating on 4 books for people with lymphedema: Living Well with Lymphedema, Overcoming the Emotional Challenges of Lymphedema, Voices of Lymphedema, and Lymphedema Caregiver's Guide.

Panic and Anxiety Attacks: Having seen hundreds of people overcome fear of panic and anxiety attacks, I am writing a book with a fellow psychologist, Lindsey Kremmel, PhD, entitled: Overcoming Panic and Anxiety Attacks in 5 Steps: How You and Your Caveman Brain can Live Happily Together in Today's Modern World. I am very excited about this project and hope to have it published by the end of the year.

Responding to Nonadherence, Increasing Happiness, Preventing Personal Burnout, and Other Topics: As you can see from my home page, I write and speak on many different areas. The theme throughout is applying findings from psychological research in effective, practical ways to help you make your life better.

Background: I received my BA in Psychology from Earlham College and my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Case Western Reserve University. I work in the outpatient psychiatry department of Kaiser Permanente in Fremont, California providing individual and group therapy, supervising psychology residents, helping develop best practice guidelines, and serving on the clinical review and quality assurance committees.
